Wiring a CBE dimmer switch with one of our custom built wiring looms.

Dimmer switches are a great addition to any camper, not only do they look good, but they allow you to adjust the brightness of our LED lights as well as turn them on and off.

Mounting:

To mount the dimmer switch, you will need a C-line surround, it can either be on it's own in a single surround or as part of a larger set up in a double or triple surround.  Select your desired location and drill a hole just large enough for the round back box to go through the hole, but still giving room to pop some 3mm screws through the corners of the switch.

Then feed the wiring looms marked "dimmer switch in" & "dimmer switch out", through the hole from the back of your panel. Then you can wire the socket before putting the finished assembly back into the hole and screwing it in place.

Wiring:

As always, before carrying out any electrical work, please make sure your leisure battery is disconnected by removing the negative strap so you are not working with any potentially live wires.

When purchased as a part of one of our full electrical camper conversion kits, we will provide the wiring looms to and from the dimmer switch labelled up and ready to install.

To wire the dimmer switch, remove the round cover that comes with the switch by gently lifting one of the two retaining tags (top and bottom). This will allow you to see the back of the switch in the image below.

At this point,  remove the two screws on the back of the round cover, this hold the cable retaining clamp, feed your wiring loom through the small hole and then you can wire the switch as below.  (please note, the dimmer switch in and out wires may not always be yellow, but they will always be labelled dimmer switch in and out).

The wires are held in place using a screw type wire clamp, so place the un-insulated end of your wire into each terminal and tighten the screws until the wire is secure and can't pull out.  This job requires a small flat bladed screw driver.

If you are building your own wiring loom, the "dimmer switch in" wire is the fused power coming up from your 12V fuse box, and the "dimmer switch out" wire is the feed to the positive of your LED lights.

Once you have wired this, you can reattach the round back box and tighten the cable clamp down to hold the wiring loom in place.

Please note this dimmer switch is for 12V circuits only.

Please always consult CBE's official wiring manuals before wiring any switches and have your work check by a qualified electrician before you reconnect your leisure battery.
